Reduce Fatigue Related Accidents – Safety Tips

Safety Matters – Great Info from the NationaLease Newsletter

Practicing good safety can save lives and ultimately can save you money, and NationaLease wants to help keep safety at the forefront with some helpful safety tips. Today’s tip discusses preventing fatigue-related accidents. Research shows that driver fatigue may contribute to up to 20% of accidents on the road, here are some ways to help combat fatigue:

• Make sure you are fit to drive. Do not begin a journey if you are tired. Get a good
night’s sleep before embarking on a long journey.
• Avoid undertaking long journeys between midnight and 6am, when natural
alertness is at a minimum
• Plan your journey to take sufficient breaks. A minimum break of at least 15 minutes
after every two hours of driving is recommended
• If you feel sleepy, stop in a safe place. Do not stop on the hard
shoulder of a motorway
• The most effective ways to counter sleepiness are to drink, for example,
two cups of caffeinated coffee and to take a short nap (up to 15 minutes).

Bentley Truck Services, Inc. Earns Test Call Exemption from NationaLease

Bentley Truck Services earned NationaLease’s Test Call Exemption for remainder of 2015.

Reciprocal Service is the cornerstone of NationaLease and an invaluable resource for both its members and customers. In an effort to ensure the highest quality of our Reciprocal Service standards, NationaLease enlists the NationaLease Test Call program. The program is designed to help uncover any areas of weakness throughout the system. Each NationaLease service facility receives two test calls per year (one in the first half of the year, and one in second).

Last year, the NationaLease Board of Directors Reciprocal Service Committee implemented a change in the program to reward the folks who consistently provide excellent emergency service through our simulated breakdowns. Bentley Truck Services was one of 60 NationaLease members who successfully handled each of NationLease’s test emergencies, for all test calls performed from July 2014 to June 2015 and will not require additional testing for 2015.

Nationalease Attaboy article about Fred Bentley and Bentley Truck

Thank you Nationalease and Shawn Milam for this great write up

This was posted on the Nationalease website

What a great write up and kind words, we really do try hard to go that extra mile and greatly appreciate the honest feedback

“Shawn Milam of Metro NationaLease wrote, “Last night, one of my customers broke down on Rt. 295 in NJ at 11:00PM. After numerous attempts to get a vendor to go out to the customer had failed, we started looking for a replacement tractor. Fred Bentley from Bentley Truck Services, Inc., a NationaLease Member, responded to my service manager at 2:30AM and agreed to go himself to release a tractor from his Swedesboro location. We then could not find a tow company willing, in the next 3 hours, to go get the tractor and take it to the driver. Fred then agreed to go pick up the driver himself and take him to the tractor so he did not have to wait. I received a call at 7:30AM that the load was delivered successfully and I wanted to share this story with you. What Fred did last night was above and beyond and I just wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciated what he did.” Great job Fred and the team at Bentley Truck Services.”

NationaLease/Decisiv Deal Aims to Improve Uptime

NationaLease announced an agreement with Decisiv to give its customers fleet tracking and reporting capabilities. The maintenance platform will be called NationaLease Fleet 20/20 and will be available to all NationaLease members and customers.

By providing a collaborative connection between the NationaLease network and its 24/7 Road Rescue service, Fleet 20/20 is aimed at improving uptime and reducing costs. The platform captures, communicates, manages and measures each service event in real time. It will provide real-time event status access at all service locations, as well as custom dashboards and reporting for NationaLease customers.

“Our agreement with Decisiv will enable our customers’ fleet managers to access their entire fleet in a single place,” said Dean Vicha, president of NationaLease. “The interactive capabilities of the platform coupled with real-time access to reporting data will arm us with tools to compete more effectively for new business in the future, and make it easier than ever for large fleets to do business with NationaLease.”

The initial focus of the NationaLease agreement with Decisiv is national account customers, with the first wave currently online. The agreement will eventually include integration and deployment with NationaLease’s 700 service locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Lease a truck instead of owning one

Is it better to lease a truck rather than own one?

We found this great article on the Ameriquest website.

Experts weigh in on the reasons fleets should look to leasing rather than ownership.

Recently, Transport Topics ran an article entitled “Trucking Fleets Cite Maintenance Costs Among Benefits of Leasing Vehicles.” The article quotes a number of industry experts discussing the changes in fleets’ attitudes when it comes to the decision whether to purchase or lease.

Companies are trying to maintain and hopefully increase whatever profits they make by focusing on their core business. One way to do this is through leasing rather than owning a fleet; another is by outsourcing many traditional cost centers to expert providers. According to Dean Vicha, president of NationaLease, “Folks are starting to look at outsourcing where before they had their own shops, but the commitment to technology and the issues with hiring good technicians is just much tougher than it was in the past.”

So how does leasing enter into the benefit here? To start with, in the most general sense, leasing a fleet is beneficial to companies in a number of ways. The high cost of new trucks, with all the new technology, has made companies question whether purchasing makes sense. With leasing, there is minimal upfront investment, so companies can use their capital to grow the business. Leasing companies offer detailed analysis on vehicle usage, helping businesses use only the types and quantities of vehicles necessary.

Truck leasing companies are transportation partners.

The Transport Topics article quotes Tom James, CEO of the Truck Renting and Leasing Association, who stated, “People are looking for transportation partners and that is what leasing companies are…Fixed monthly costs allow companies to focus on the core […]
