Each year during the CVSA (Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance) Roadcheck event, tens of thousands of inspections are conducted. On average, about three times as many inspections are done each day during Roadcheck than on any other day.  Nearly 17 trucks or buses are inspected every minute across North America during the 72-hour period.

CVSA-certified inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives targeted at various elements of motor carrier, vehicle, driver ad cargo safety and security. Every year CVSA places a special emphasis on a particular category of violations. This year the area of main emphasis is cargo securement.

Now is the time to prepare for Roadcheck 2017 and make sure your drivers and vehicles are operating safely.

According to CVSA, drivers will be asked to provide their license, endorsements, medical card, and hours of service documentation. Drivers also will be checked for seat belt usage and for use of alcohol and controlled substances.

The vehicle inspection will include a check of the:

braking system
coupling devices
exhaust system
frame
fuel system
lights
safe loading
steering mechanism
suspension
tires
van and open-top trailer bodies
wheels and rims
windshield wipers
emergency exits (on buses)

Are You Ready? CVSA Roadcheck 2016 Coming Soon

CVSA International Roadcheck 2016 will take place June 7-9, 2016
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) 29th Annual International Roadcheck will take place on June 7-9, 2016. Approximately 10,000 CVSA-certified local, state, provincial, territorial and federal inspectors in jurisdictions across North America will perform large truck and bus safety inspections.

Each year, International Roadcheck places particular emphasis on a category of violations. This year will be the year of tire safety, which will include the following:

Measuring tire tread depth
Checking the tire pressure
Checking to make sure no items are lodged between dual tires
Examining the overall condition of the tire to ensure no deep cuts or bulges exist in the sidewalls

CVSA Tips for Avoiding Tire Violations

Of course, checking vehicle tires is always a part of roadside inspections; the CVSA continues to highlight the important test as a reminder to drivers and carriers. This tire inspection is in addition to the 37-step North American Standard Level I Inspection, one of the most rigorous roadside inspection procedures that examines not only the vehicle but also the driver.

International Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world. Nearly 75,000 inspections take place each year during the inspection spree. On average, it inspects 17 trucks or buses every minute in Canada, the United States, and Mexico during its 72-hour window. During the annual three-day event, CVSA-certified inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives targeted at various elements of motor carrier, vehicle and driver safety.

In last year’s Roadcheck, 1,623 drivers and 9,732 vehicles were found with out-of-service violations, the lowest rate since 1991.
