Safe Driving Tips for Icy Bridges

Since bridges and overpasses have no contact to the ground, they do not have the advantage of ground temperatures that are warmer than the air above. The warmer ground below can sometimes keep the road surface warm enough to prevent ice from forming.
Cold air hits a bridge from the top, bottom and both sides, while regular road surfaces are only hit from the top. Even when the regular road is clear, a bridge may be covered with snow and ice. This is the reason why bridges become icy even if the road before or after them are not and makes bridges particularly dangerous.
Any precipitation when temperatures are near or below freezing could cause ice to form on a bridge. In addition, if ice is forming on your mirrors and windshield, chances are it is forming on any bridges you approach as well.
Here are some tips to stay safe on bridges and overpasses during the winter months:
Pay attention to the weather
Make it a routine to check the weather forecast during the winter months. Being aware of road conditions will help you be more prepared.
Slow Down
Slow down and pay attention to your surroundings, especially over bridges. When approaching an icy bridge, slow down; moving at a higher speed means you are more likely to hit a patch of ice and lose control.
Keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you
When weather conditions deteriorate, maintain a safe interval between you and the car ahead of you. Avoid braking, changing lanes, or accelerating on the bridge: If the bridge is icy, any sudden moves can make your vehicle slip, slide and spin.
Turn into a slide
If you are sliding, do not hit your brakes, it can make the slide worst. Turn your wheels in the […]

Hino Manual Regeneration for Conventional Trucks

What is a Regen

In a commercial truck with the exhaust filter can become clogged over time. This extra soot that has built up will need to be burned (cleaned) out. In most cases if the vehicle is used for a lot of highway driving, this process will happen automatically while driving.

The buildup occurs when a truck idles a lot or is used for a lot of city driving. In this case, a warning light on the dash will light up informing the driver that it is time to perform a parked (manual) regen. Basically, you park your truck, push the manual regen button and the engine will rev up and heat up burning out the excess soot.

Hino Conventional Truck Manual (Parked) Regen

To start a manual regen on a Hino conventional truck, park your vehicle in a safe place. Put the vehicle in park and engage the parking brake. Next, press the DPR manual regeneration switch that is blinking on the dash.

The switch light will then remain illuminated during the regeneration and the engine idle speed will increase. The regen process will be complete in approximately 15 – 20 minutes and the regen indicator lights will turn off. the engine idle speed will return to normal complete.

Watch the complete video to find out more and also what can interrupt a manual regeneration.
