Fuso Launches New Model – the All Electric eCanter

Mitsubishi Fuso Launches New Production Model, the All-Electric eCanter

Indianapolis, IN — Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (FUSO) will bring limited-production line fully electric trucks to market in the U.S., Japan and Europe before the end of 2017. The company made the surprising announcement at its press conference, held in its booth at The Work Truck Show on Wednesday, March 15.

The company has dubbed this new, all-electric, battery-powered medium-duty work truck the eCanter. It will be the first 100% plug-in electric work truck designed and produced by a major truck manufacturer, and the first production models are scheduled to arrive in the U.S. later this year.

The eCanter is a Class 4 truck with a 15,995 lb. GVWR and a payload capacity of roughly 9,380 lb. It has a practical range up to 100 miles, 1- hour quick charge capability, and standard 8-hour overnight charge.

According to Jecka Glasman, FUSO’s president and CEO, “We believe the eCanter will help us chart the future of medium-duty trucking in urban environments. It delivers up to a 100-mile range, with zero emissions and zero noise pollution—what we call positive energy. We’ve had preliminary conversations with multiple customers and they are enthusiastic about the possibilities this new truck represents.”

The eCanter also offers flexible battery configurations, so end users can choose between maximizing the eCanter’s range to its full capacity of 100 miles, or working with a somewhat smaller range in order to maximize its payload.

In summarizing one of the significant aspects of these new electric trucks, Otto Schmid, FUSO’s Director, Product Management, noted, “While the new eCanter has a different look than our standard FE Series cabovers, the electric drivetrain is fitted to our standard 151.6˝-wheelbase cab-chassis—so customers and upfitters will […]

ISUZU Announces Production of All-New Class 6 Truck – 2018 Isuzu FTR

ISUZU ANNOUNCES PRODUCTION OF ALL-NEW CLASS 6 TRUCK
2018 FTR Will Have a Starting M.S.R.P. of $82,180
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc., distributor of America’s best-selling low cab forward trucks, has announced that production of its all-new entry in the Class 6 medium-duty truck segment—the 2018 Isuzu FTR—will begin in May of this year. The company made the announcement today at the National Truck Equipment Association’s 2017 Work Truck Show in Indianapolis.

The F-Series truck, which will be assembled at a new 85,000-square-foot Spartan Motors facility in Charlotte, Michigan, will have a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $82,180. Orders for the truck will be accepted beginning of April, 2017.

“The all-new FTR is truly a game-changer,” said Shaun Skinner, president of Isuzu Commercial Truck of America. “This truck’s combination of low-cab-forward design and Class 6 GVWR gives it fantastic maneuverability and visibility along with the ability to carry more cargo than a conventional Class 6 truck. Its four-cylinder diesel engine is environmentally friendly and gives the truck outstanding fuel efficiency. Its class-leading warranty gives its owners peace of mind. And it’s an Isuzu Truck, a name that is synonymous with dependability, durability and low cost of ownership.”

Powerful, Efficient, Durable, Capable

The FTR will be powered by the Isuzu’s renowned Isuzu 4HK1-TC 5.2-liter turbocharged fourcylinder diesel engine—a first in the segment. “We believe that more and more competitors in this class will be turning to four-cylinder engines, because they are cleaner and more efficient,” Skinner said. “Our 4HK engine goes beyond environmental friendliness and economy—it’s also durable and powerful.”

Isuzu also announced that this engine now carries a B-10 durability rating of 375,000 miles— meaning that 90% of engines should reach that mileage before requiring an overhaul. This […]

Isuzu’s 4HK1-TC Diesel Engine Received 375,000 Mile B10 Durability Rating

B10 DURABILITY RATING OF ISUZU 4HK1-TC ENGINE INCREASED TO 375,000 MILES
Legendary Engine is Fitted to Isuzu’s Newest and Most Popular Diesel Trucks

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 13, 2017

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc., distributor of America’s best-selling low cab forward trucks, today announced that the B10 durability rating of its 4HK1-TC diesel engine has been increased to 375,000 miles. The company made the announcement today at the National Truck Equipment Association’s 2017 Work Truck Show in Indianapolis.

A “B10-life” rating is an industry-standard gauge provided by engine makers to help consumers determine the long-term durability of an engine. The number following the “B” indicates the percentage of an engine’s population that will require an overhaul before the indicated mileage.
That means that 90% of Isuzu 4HK1-TC engines are expected to last 375,000 miles before they require a major repair or rebuild.

Previously, the 4HK1-TC engine carried an already-robust B10 durability rating of 310,000 miles.
“We are proud to say that Isuzu diesel engines are already known worldwide for their long-term dependability,” said Shaun Skinner, president of Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc. “Our new B-10 rating is strong evidence that our engines are even more durable than ever.”

The turbocharged, intercooled 4HK1-TC four-cylinder diesel engine displaces 5.2 liters and generates 215 horsepower. Torque ratings vary depending on model.

The engine is fitted to Isuzu NPR-HD, NPR-XD, NQR and NRR models, as well as the all-new 2018 Isuzu FTR Class 6 truck. Each of these models is backed by a three-year/unlimited mileage powertrain limited warranty.

Mitsubishi Fuso Offers Mobileye Safety System on Its FE and FG Trucks

For model year 2017, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America will offer optional Mobileye collision-avoidance systems on its FE and FG Series trucks.

For a limited time, MItsubishi Fuso will install the Mobileye system free of charge on all 2017 FE and FG Series trucks, normally a $1,000 option, the OEM said.

“We recognize that driver efficiency and safety have direct impact on the bottom line for all of our Fuso customers,” said Otto Schmid, MFTA director of product management. “The Mobileye Collision Avoidance System has proved itself in our testing to reduce the number of incidents that trigger warnings for tailgating, lane departure, urban collision, and rural or highway collision by an average of 50%.”

The study conducted by MFTA also showed that where drivers received specific training in system safety detection and operation, reductions were significantly higher. The Mobileye system is aimed at improving safe operation of the truck, particularly in densely populated urban areas where most Fuso trucks are in use.

The Mobileye system’s forward-looking sensors can detect and warn of an imminent rear-end collision at any vehicle speed, with up to 2.7 seconds of advance notice. The Mobileye system identifies pedestrians and cyclists during daylight hours and alerts drivers in the event of a possible collision.

The headway monitor assists the driver in maintaining a safe following distance from the vehicle in front, displaying the amount of time, in seconds, to the vehicle in front when that time drops below 2.5 seconds. A green vehicle icon signifies safe headway, a red icon signifies unsafe and the system provides an alert if the time becomes dangerously short.

The lane departure warning alerts the driver when the vehicle departs from the driving lane without turn signals, by displaying a right- […]
