RoadcheckEach year during the CVSA (Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance) Roadcheck event, tens of thousands of inspections are conducted. On average, about three times as many inspections are done each day during Roadcheck than on any other day.  Nearly 17 trucks or buses are inspected every minute across North America during the 72-hour period.

CVSA-certified inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives targeted at various elements of motor carrier, vehicle, driver ad cargo safety and security. Every year CVSA places a special emphasis on a particular category of violations. This year the area of main emphasis is cargo securement.

Now is the time to prepare for Roadcheck 2017 and make sure your drivers and vehicles are operating safely.

According to CVSA, drivers will be asked to provide their license, endorsements, medical card, and hours of service documentation. Drivers also will be checked for seat belt usage and for use of alcohol and controlled substances.

The vehicle inspection will include a check of the:

  • braking system
  • coupling devices
  • exhaust system
  • frame
  • fuel system
  • lights
  • safe loading
  • steering mechanism
  • suspension
  • tires
  • van and open-top trailer bodies
  • wheels and rims
  • windshield wipers
  • emergency exits (on buses)
